Boyd attended school in Kiowa, graduating with the class of 1950. He graduated from Kansas State University with a degree in Animal Husbandry. Boyd was on the tennis team at KSU, was a member of the Army ROTC and the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity. White at K-State, he met Sally Hoatson. They were married September 23, 1955.
A fixed wing and helicopter pilot, Boyd achieved the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Air Force. After his discharge he and Sally moved to the family farm north of Kiowa.
His interest included soil conservation, and he was a pioneer in implementing a soil fertilization program. He was a long time member of the Cosmos Lodge.
Boyd loved to teach tennis to anyone who would pick up a racket. He provided many books to beginners on how to play the game. He and Sally loved their dogs and treated them as their family. Reading was a means to learn more about his other interests, politics and economics.
Boyd was a vocal supporter at his grandchildren’s sporting events! After retirement he began painting with watercolors. He enjoyed giving his works to friend and family.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sally and his brothers, Buford Means and Delmar Means.
